the gratitude game
Hello loves! Welcome to the 2016 edition of the Gratitude Game!
Bookmark this page so that you can play it whenever you need a boost of positivity.
Studies have actually shown that weekly acts of gratitude are very effective, so you could even schedule a 'Grateful Monday' or a 'Thankful Thursday' into your calendars and use these cards as a prompt. You know the drill!
(P.S. Play on your laptop or desktop to get pop-up tips for each card.)
Your handwritten message can be anything from a little post-it note to a lengthy love letter. You can give it to your special someone in person, leave it somewhere for them to find, snail-mail it, or take a pic and send it to them through cyberspace.
Ideally it's someone you do have an email address for, but get creative if you need to. If it's truly logistically impossible, hop back to the HOW deck to draw another card.
You could call using a smartphone, a payphone, or a good, old dial phone; Skype, FaceTime, or Whatsapp...
As long as your special someone hears your voice!
And if they don't pick up, just leave a voice message.
We say 'thank you' all the time. So what sets apart a social courtesy from a heartfelt act of gratitude? Try looking them in the eye and sharing not only WHAT you're grateful for, but WHY it's made an impact on you.
This might be for someone you exchange smiles with every day but have never spoken to, or an under-appreciated colleague that needs to know they matter.
This doesn’t have to be a romantic candle-lit dinner (though that most certainly is an option!). It could be a coffee with someone you’d like to get to know better, or a Skype date with your long-lost buddy from childhood, or a cozy movie night with your bestie.
All you need to do today is pick your special someone and invite them on a date!
That's assuming we all have Facebook! In case you don't, no worries at all, just draw another card.
Your video message can simply be a short and sweet selfie video taken on your smartphone, or you can get creative with a lip-synced music video!
Today, you're thanking someone who's been there through the good, the bad, and the ugly cries; someone who's loyal and dependable and steadfast. In your rock bottom, they're rock-solid.
Today, you're thanking that special somebody in your life who you're able to let it all hang out with, who fully accepts you, warts and all.
This is basically anyone you don't know personally. So it could be a super lovely Starbucks barista, or your very friendly doorman, or someone on the other side of the world who you've been following virtually.
You might be reaching out to a relative, an ex, a frenemy, a random person on FB who you've been having a heated political debate with...
Despite your differences, past or present, what have you learned from them? What is it about them that you can appreciate or respect?
Do you ever look at someone and go, if only you knew how beautiful and special you are...
Well, here's your chance to really spell it out to them.
You know, that lovely someone who warms your heart and brightens your day.
Maybe they've made rainbows out of your drizzly days. Maybe they're behind a cloud right now and need to be reminded of their gloriousness.
Today, you're thanking someone who makes you think a little bigger, feel a little deeper, and live a little fuller.
It can be someone you've known for years, or someone who doesn't even know your name.
